📋 House Moving Checklist

A smooth move starts with smart preparation. Use this checklist to stay organised and avoid last-minute stress.

🏠 Property Inspection

Before moving in, consider hiring a property inspector to assess your new home.

• Electrical, plumbing, and repair work is best done before furniture arrives.
• Early fixes save time, prevent damage, and give you peace of mind about your home’s condition.

📱 Mobile Phone

• Keep your phone switched on and fully charged throughout the move.
• It’s your lifeline for coordination and communication.

🚚 Driveway Access

• Clear the driveway of any obstructions so the truck can reverse close to the entrance.
• Move potted plants away from the sides to prevent accidental damage.
• Trim any overhanging plants to under 3 metres to avoid interference during furniture handling.

👶 Kids & Pets

• Arrange babysitting for young children.
• Keep pets in a secure, empty room during the move.
• This ensures safety for everyone—kids can get injured, and movers may trip over pets.

📅 Be Present & Prepared

• Avoid scheduling other commitments during your move.
• Stay on-site for the entire duration to guide and assist the removalists.
• If you’re leaving a property, consider writing a note for the new occupants or real estate agent with helpful tips about the house, neighbours, or appliances.
• Don’t forget to hand over garage remotes, appliance manuals, and warranty cards.

📦 Packing & Labelling

• Label each box clearly with its contents and handling instructions.
• Seal all boxes securely with tape.
• Mark fragile items with “Handle with Care.”
• Keep box weight under 25 kg to avoid safety risks.
• Provide clear drop-off instructions and address details to avoid delays.

🪑 Furniture Preparation

• Remove items from the tops of cabinets and furniture.
• Empty drawers and side tables to prevent them from opening during transit.
• If furniture requires reassembly, include manuals and keep bolts and accessories in a labelled bag.
• Lock away valuables in a safe if possible.

⚙️ Appliances

• Disconnect all appliances before the movers arrive.
• Empty and defrost refrigerators in advance.
• Lock washing machine drums using the original screws—ask the movers for help if needed.

📺 TVs & Entertainment Systems

• Pack HDTVs, projectors, and sound systems in their original boxes if available.
• We recommend transporting these items in your own vehicle.
